EIGER MEETS WITH TIPO and MOJ OFFICIALS

Eiger Law partner John Eastwood chaired a roundtable luncheon meeting of the ECCT IPR Committee on June 15, 2010, featuring Taiwan Intellectual Property Office (TIPO) Deputy Director Margaret Chen, along with prosecutors Chih-Hung Chiou and Tzung-Chih Lin from the Ministry of Justice (MOJ). Deputy Director Chen has headed up Taiwan’s IP enforcement policy efforts for the past few years and will be stepping down June 30, 2010. Prosecutor Chiou has headed up IP criminal enforcement matters at the MOJ and will be heading shortly to a visiting scholar position at Stanford University in the United States, at which point Prosecutor Lin will move into his role. The roundtable format for the meeting gave participants a unique opportunity to get the valedictory thoughts of two long-serving key IP-enforcement officials in Taiwan’s government and a chance to meet a new key contact. Participants included Deputy Head Tamas Maczak of the European Economic and Trade Office, Martin Hiesboeck of the Austrian Trade Delegation and chair of the IPR Market Access Team, as well as Eiger Law’s Eve Chen, Marcus Clinch, Cammi Rao, Michael Werner and Michael Hsieh.
